zkSync Era: The ZK Rollup With Account Abstraction Built In

Explore zkSync Era — native account abstraction, ultra-low fees, and a growing ecosystem of DeFi and gaming dApps.

What Is zkSync Era?

zkSync Era is a ZK rollup developed by Matter Labs that provides EVM compatibility through a custom compiler (zkSolc). It was one of the first L2s to offer native account abstraction.

Native Account Abstraction

Unlike Ethereum where account abstraction is an add-on (ERC-4337), zkSync Era has it built into the protocol:

  • Every account is a smart contract — no distinction between EOAs and smart accounts

  • Paymaster support: Any token can be used for gas payment

  • Custom validation: Accounts can define their own transaction validation logic

Technical Architecture

  • zkEVM: Custom EVM compilation through zkSolc compiler
  • LLVM-based: Uses LLVM for optimized ZK proof generation
  • Boojum prover: GPU-optimized proof system for fast finalization
  • Hyperchains: Planned L3 ecosystem for app-specific chains

Key Ecosystem Projects

  • SyncSwap: Leading DEX on zkSync Era
  • Mute.io: AMM with revenue-sharing tokens
  • ReactorFusion: Lending protocol
  • ZKsync Name Service: ENS-style names for zkSync

ZK Token

The ZK token launched in 2024 through an airdrop to ecosystem participants. It serves governance and future protocol staking purposes.

Fees

zkSync Era transactions cost ~$0.01-0.05, making it one of the most affordable L2s. The Boojum prover upgrade significantly reduced proving costs.

Trading on zkSync Era via Alkizen

Swap tokens from any chain to zkSync Era assets through Alkizen. Take advantage of native account abstraction and ultra-low fees.
